Eczema

Eczema is a condition that cause red, irritated, itchy skin often combined with small, fluid-filled bumps that become moist and ooze. Eczema is not as contagious as a cold, but it is very possible to get it if a family member already has it. Researchers think it's inherited or passed through the genes. People with this skin condition may also have asthma or allergies and for some, food allergies may aggravate the disease. Eczema can't be cured but we have some tips that help prevent it.

  • Avoid substances that damage your skin; reduce exposure to household cleaners, soaps, detergents, and fragranced creams.
  • Exposure to too much water can dry out your skin. Take warm, not hot, baths or showers and gently pat your skin dry so as not to irritate the eczema.
  • Clothes of wool or other scratchy materials can irritate your skin. Cotton clothes are a safer choice if you are suffering from skin conditions.
  • Petroleum jelly or other moisturizers free of any fragrance prevent your skin from becoming irritated or cracked, with an unhealthy aspect.
  • It's difficult to resist but try not to scratch the itch. Otherwise, it will make it more difficult for the skin to heal because bacteria will get in, aggravating infection.
  • Sudden changes in temperature, sweating, and overheating may cause your eczema to kick in.
  • Follow your doctor's or dermatologist's directions by taking your medications according to the prescription.
  • Stress can cause your eczema to worsen, so try to relax.
